Hi! My name is Eric, I work at a local university in Akita and I've been a part of Akita Bible Baptist Church since 2024. I'll be using this page to give regular updates on the progress of the new church building at ABBC. We are so thankful for all of your prayers and support!

A woman in our church made this video right after after we received our first estimate for the construction costs. After this video was made, however, problems with the blueprints were discovered and we are currently looking for a new architect to make blueprints for us. Due to these unfortunate circumstances, some details of this video are no longer true, such as the specific amount needed; we now think that we will need less than half of what was requested in this video. Please continue to pray for us and contribute financially as your feel led. Thank you!
お待たせいたしました!Sorry it has been so long since the last update! There has been a lot going on. First, the demolition is complete! During this process, however, the demolition company accidentally broke part of the retaining wall. The good news is that the insurance company will cover the cost and we will actually get a nicer retaining wall than we could have otherwise afforded! This will take about three months to complete which would have set our timeline back quite a bit if not for the fact that we were already facing delays after running into some difficulties with the architect. We are currently pursuing all options but trust that God will provide in His timing. Please be praying for Pastor Billy and all the members of the church as this hiccup will require many tough decisions and strong unity.
Demolition continues at the old building as you can see from the photos above! If you are wondering, the big white box in the middle is a bath tub 🛀
Demoliton began today at the old building! The last few weeks have been a mad scramble to get everything out of the building and prepare it for demolition (shut off water, electricity, etc.). I'll share more pictures as they become available!
On Sunday, ABBC celebrated their last Sunday service at the church building which has been used for over 30 years. God has done so much during that time, including 30 baptisms! We will now gather at another local church for several months before moving into the new building. Please join us in praising God for His kindness and faithfulness to ABBC!
Merry Christmas! I hope you had a wonderful day and could celebrate Christ coming to earth to save us from our sins, bear witness to the truth and glorify the Father. Right now it's crunch time at the church to move everything out of our current building and into the temporary storage. Actually, our last gathering will be on January 25! After that, another church in the city (Akita Chuo Christ Church) is graciously letting us use their building for Sunday services while the new church is being built. We are so thankful to be able to borrow their space!
Big news! Today the blueprints for the new building got approved by the legal authorities! This is an extremely important step in the process, and we are thankful to God for showing us this kindness. Next up, we can get a detailed estimate for the building. In the mean time, we have begun cleaning out the current space and are moving some items into temporary storage. Please continue to join us in prayer!
Not at all! While of course one of the main purposes of our church building is for Sunday services, it's used for so much more throughout the week. We use it for neighborhood outreach events, providing visiting missionary housing, adult English classes, community support base during emergencies and more. One use I'd like to highlight is that my wife and I use it to hold an English class for elementary school students (英会話教室). This provides a great opportunity to invite Japanese families into the life of the church who might otherwise not be interested, while also helping kids get excited about learning English. This class really wouldn't be possible without the building!
We are currently waiting for legal approval for our blueprints. Once we have a detailed estimate for the new building, we will start sharing some more information on the process. Lord willing, we will tear down the current building in February and then start building in March. During the construction process, we will borrow a local church in the afternoon for our service. Thank you for your prayers!
